We invite you to the 52nd annual gala of the Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center. “Journey to Japan” will celebrate Japanese culture and open our summer exhibition "Portrait of Nature: Myriads of Gods" on Friday, June 7th. Let this Gala take you to a Journey to Japan...

The exhibition will showcase the work of two internationally renowned Japanese photographers, Nobuyuki Kobayashi and Masato Okazaki in their US debut. Their work highlights the Japanese culture's longtime reverence and respect for nature and how it aligns with the Shinto belief that gods reside in all things. Kobayashi and Okazaki aim to refocus today’s societal narrative to a time when the spirits of gods in nature itself were revered.

The works of two female Colorado artists, Mieko Kaneshi and Margaret Kasahara, will also be displayed. Kaneshi combines the disciplined study of Japanese art with the boldness of the Southwest in a unique artistic style. Kasahara explores personal and social identity in her drawings, paintings, and mixed media work.

This will be a special moment for the Arts Center, its Board of Trustees, staff, volunteers, and instructors, as we acknowledge and pay tribute to the vision, commitment, and perseverance of the Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center’s founders and supporters over the past half-century.

We would be honored to have your support for this event.
