Twisted Moonlight
David Caricato & Linda Lazzarini
May 2nd to August 23rd
2nd Floor | Foyer Gallery
Linda Lazzarini has worked in various mediums over her artistic career, but she seems to always come back to working with paper in some way. One time she will show us a large installation of hundreds of intricately folded pieces to inspire folks to speak to one and other about sensitive topics. The next time she brings tiny, precious, detailed insects of various kinds to hold in one’s hand if one dares. Lazzarini captivates the viewer with her attention to detail and her whimsical and biting sense of humor. The Puppets exhibited in the Second Floor Gallery show the whimsey. Scan the bar code to see the puppet in action and to get the bite if you dare. When asked for her bio, Lazzarini provided, "The evolution of mistakes". We can all relate to that, but for some of us, like Lazzarini, the evolution is obvious.
David Caricato started his artistic career with two graduate degrees, one in graphic design, and one in industrial Arts/Woodworking. He’s shown in galleries throughout the Southwestern United States and in Washington State, Florida, and New York. Caricato has shown solo and in groups in galleries, universities, and art centers, including locally at the Rocky Mountain School of Art, the Business of Art Center, the Smokebrush Art Center, the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center, Auraria Campus Gallery, Park City Fine Art Center, and most recently at Pikes Peak Community College. Often, it is difficult to distinguish Caricato’s wood carvings from the real object regardless of the original material and this is evidenced by the fact that he has received Awards for fifteen consecutive years at the Colorado State Fair Fine Art Gallery Exhibit including Best of Show and First Place in Sculpture and has received numerous other awards and prizes in various shows and exhibitions throughout the Southwest.
