Call of the Wild
Buck is a powerful 140-pound St. Bernard-Scotch Shepard living a happy life in the Santa Clara Valley of California. Life was good for Buck – until it wasn’t.
Kidnapped from his lavish life on a California estate and sent to work as a sled dog during the great Klondike Gold Rush of the 1800s, Buck becomes the most famous dog in the northland’s history and discovers the endurance and strength of his wild, primal ancestors as their call courses through his blood. It’s a thrilling tale of courage and survival.
Join us for a spectacular performance and retelling of Jack London’s classic story, “Call of the Wild”, live on main stage at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. This multi-media adventure mixes performance and storytelling like never before, with projected illustrations to truly bring Buck’s story to life on stage.
“Our team is so excited to bring this production of Call of the Wild to the main stage. Thanks to our tech crew, we’ve implemented major upgrades to our theater. The Arts Center prides itself on producing high-quality performances that you won’t find anywhere else in Pueblo,” says Jerica Khosla, Director of the Buell Children’s Museum. She was instrumental in bringing this show to the Pueblo community.
The production uses 180-degree projection that surrounds the performer and provides scenic, artistic, and historical context to the show through their content. The images feature a unique mix of Philip R. Goodwin’s classical illustrations from the book’s first edition, period photographs, and brand-new drawings and animations created by artist Michael Rae.
This is a family-friendly show that closely follows London’s original story and is recommended for children 8 years and older.
Jennifer Luck from Paramount Theater in Austin, Texas has also noted the show’s success, “Noel Gaulin is such a gifted storyteller; you simply cannot help but fall in love (and experience a little heartbreak) with his portrayal of Buck...I believe this piece has the power to draw schools and public audiences in droves and will leave lasting impact.”
