Saturday May 20th 10:00AM - 1:00PM - 1 Day Class

Glass Fusing is a fascinating media, you can shape it, stack it, weave it or melt it into a puddle!  Each student will get exposed to the glass fusing process in this introductory class.  No experience necessary and no glass cutting will be required for this intro level class.  Each student will complete a 7" Glass Flower Bowl using a frit slurry process and other glass embellishments  to create  an artistic design on a 7" circle of clear fusible glass.  The glass is fired on top of flower shaped molds, which fuses the class components together and  slumps the glass into the shape of a flower at the same time. These flower bowls make great pieces for tabletop or wall display.

This class is suitable for adults, seniors, and teens over 16 years of age. Materials and Tools information below. N95 Mask is recommended for safety.

MATERIALS & TOOLS:

Due to the nature of this class, at brief periods of time students may be working with glass powders. This being the case, we ask students to bring an N-95 mask for safety. This mask will be worn while handling the glass powders and isn’t required to be worn for the whole class. The studio will have a limited number of respirators available for class use, however, if you are able to bring a personal safety mask, this would be recommended. Other than personal safety masks, all materials and tools will be provided by the Instructor, Nell Trask, or by the Arts Center.

FIRING POLICY:

It takes hours to run the kiln and fire the pieces.  Because of limitations on access to a kiln, the projects will be fired and available for pick up at Sangre de Cristo Art Center one week following the conclusion of your class.

Parents/guardians are required to sign-in and sign-out students. Students will only be released to adults indicated in their registration. For unforeseen/last minute pick-up changes, please call 719-295-7200. Drop off and pick up are located at the Kid Rock Café (the east entrance of the Buell Children’s Museum – first level).

Students may be dropped off no more than 15 minutes before class and no later than 15 minutes after their last class. If a student has classes both before and after the noon hour, the student may eat a packed lunch from home on campus. No food will be provided by the Arts Center. A staff member will chaperone the lunch hour from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
