FUNctional Pottery!

July 8, 15, 22, and 29

Throughout this class students will learn the elements and principles of art while creating their three projects. The projects will focus on one technique each: pinch pots, coils, and slabs. These projects are designed to be fun yet functional. Students will be encouraged to use their imagination and what they have learned about the elements and principles of art to make each project their own.   

Recommended Ages 10-12 years

Elements of Art: The visual components of color, form, line, shape, space, texture, and value.

Principles of Art: Balance, emphasis, movement, proportion, rhythm, unity, and variety; the menas an artist uses to organize elements within a work of art.

  • Project 1: Decorated Pinch Pots
  • Project 2: Coil Bowls or Plates
  • Project 3: Slab Wall Hanging or Slab Drape Mold 

This class is for all levels, no clay experience necessary. Materials included in class cost.

Please note that by enrolling in this class, you understand that the Arts Center's staff and/or Photographer-in-Residence may stop by to photograph the class for educational, marketing, and promotion purposes. By enrolling in this class you understand that if you wish to not be included in photographs, you are asked to alert your instructor and/or the Arts Center of your wishes and your wishes will be respected. A full copy of the Arts Center's Photo Release Policy can be provided anytime upon request and will also be provided in the classroom. Please let us know if you have any concerns. 

Also note that enrollment in this class will require the student(s) to review and sign our Clay Studio Rules and Liability Waiver. A copy will be provided to you to review before your first class, and copies will be available upon arrival to your first class as well.
