In this 2-day workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create projects using colored clays to handbuild in the "nerikomi" (layering) technique. Topics covered include how to color clay with stains, layering of clays to form designs, and using those designs to handbuild projects. Glazing and finishing ideas will be discussed and students may finish pieces at a later date. Some handbuilding experience will be helpful to students in this class.

About Your Instructor:

Sarah Christensen is a Pueblo, CO based ceramic artist making functional thrown porcelain pottery and ceramic sculpture. Originally from Denver, she discovered a love of clay in high school. She pursued an education in ceramics, earning a BFA from Alfred University in 1999. She has worked continuously in clay, exploring a wide range of making and firing techniques. Focusing predominantly on functional pottery and decorative sculpture fired in soda kilns. Her love of a well crafted pot combined with a deep need to decorate everything in site in inviting colors and patterns has given her a loyal following of collectors across the state and beyond. She enjoys teaching as it enhances her understanding of the material, as well as being an honor getting to share in others' creative journeys.
