Deb Bartos - Light in the Landscape
Exhibit on display from 05/03/24 to 08/03/24
I paint landscapes from life, as often as possible. It’s connecting to nature in an intimate way that rewards me with something new every time. It’s called Plein-air painting and I’ve found it to be the most direct way to get the most information about a subject possible. Being part of several Plein air groups has also been a great way to learn and share with other artists. My larger paintings in my studio are from both the smaller panels and the photos taken while on location.
The journey of learning to paint has led me to some very interesting places. I’ve taken many art classes, been part of wonderful art groups, been on art tours in the States and in Europe. I was an artist in residence at the Frank Waters Foundation in New Mexico and again through the library district here in Colorado Springs. I have taught both college students and private students about how to see as artists and paint what they love, and continue to teach at my home studio. I’ve been commissioned by individuals and art consultants/corporations to decorate their spaces with my work. I’ve even painted murals on big walls. Loved every minute of all of it.
My exhibit here includes some of my recent larger oil paintings with the studies in water-soluble oil used to create them, some of the materials I use in the process of creating, and some of my earlier works in Prismacolor colored pencil and watercolor. I’ve learned that drawing accurately is an important step in expressing what I want to share in my subjects. I hope you enjoy the show and are encouraged in your own creative journey.
