TIGHT WIRES & LOOSE ENDS: JOAN SINDLER | 11.5.22 – 02.25.23

Joan Hanagan Sindler was born in Lamar, Colorado and grew up on the family farm on the banks of the Arkansas River. She has a dedication studio in Florence, Colorado. Her collage work has won multiple awards at local, regional and state levels and is included in private collections in South Carolina, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Oregon and Colorado.

Many of her collages in this exhibition reflect struggle due to political, social, religious, gender and environmental discourse. Using the collage process of “putting to paper,” the artist aims to reconcile difficult issues. Sindler’s goal in creating collage is to stir an emotional response, to open a thoughtful process for the viewers to consider their place in the struggle that we contend with daily. Her work also reminds her audience that all is not painful. It is intensely important to embrace joy, hope, humor and to celebrate with laughter.
