Class Dates: October 5 & 26.

Joy's Tea Ceremony Name, given to her by her Tea Teacher in 1985 is Sojyu, meaning "fortunate one". 

In this class, tea students will be instructed on how to do MIZU YA preparation. The basics of the Thin Tea Ceremony (Ousu Cha) will be demonstrated at every session. In the last thirty minutes of the Tea session, there will be practice in writing the calligraphy piece, ENSO (Completion), WA )Harmony), KOKORO (Heart, Spirit, Love), and OCHA (Tea).

  • WA (Harmony)
  • Kei (Respect)
  • Kei (Purity)
  • Jaku (Tranquility)

Philosophy of the Japanese Tea Ceremony:

  • Ichigo Ichie (One Encounter, One Opportunity)
  • "Make Tea with your heart, not your hand, make it without making it in the stillness of your mind." 
  • What is the sound of Cha no yu? Cha no yu sounds like the WIND IN THE PINE. (Matsu Kaze)
  • "Never fail to learn from the pure voice of an ever flowing mountain stream splashing over the rocks"
