It's all about rock 'n roll and hot rods this summer at the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center. Cruise through custom cars and delve into the art behind some of the best designs. Explore the progression of auto design from initial drawings to the actual finished vehicle. Then discover some of the best art on the rock ‘n’ roll scene – the rock ‘n’ roll poster. Vintage collectors are hip to this art form that creates a visual canvas for the tunes that have carried us through the decades.
Cars and rock-and-roll music have permeated American culture and art for decades. They became forever intertwined in the 1950s when rock-and-roll skidded onto the music scene, the perfect accompaniment to hot rod cars. Helped by the rising popularity of drive-in theaters and juke boxes, these two art forms became a unifying force in America.
