With a multitude of activities vying for attention on the weekends, it’s no wonder families have little time to eat, much less enjoy some well-deserved R&R. The Children’s Playhouse Series offers that rare opportunity to combine family time with fabulous entertainment – at a price that will make pocketbooks happy.

The Sangre de Cristo Arts & Conference Center presents the 2011-2012 season of Children’s Playhouse Series featuring five family friendly performances for only $6/ticket.  Beginning this fall, the Arts Center is the place to be on Saturdays for live action acrobatics and antics, captivating storytelling, and delightful musical theater.

A family musical favorite, Cinderella bursts with excitement, fantasy, and song. Join Cinderella and her new friend Mortimer Mouse as they sing and dance their way from the kitchen of her stepmother’s house to the brilliance of Prince Charming’s ball. All the storybook characters come to life with gusto as audiences share in the spirit and joy of this American Family Theatre performance.

MISSOULA CHILDREN’S THEATRE | Performances Sat., Sept. 17, 2011 at 11 am & 2 pm
The Secret Garden

Explore this enchanting garden as it comes to life with Mary Lennox, Colin Craven, the Bugs that Rock and a host of others as the Missoula Children’s Theatre and more than 50 local students present an original musical adaptation of The Secret Garden.

• K-12 auditions are on Mon., Sept. 12 at 4 pm in the Arts Center Theater
• Rehearsals Monday-Friday, 4-7 pm in the Arts Center Theater
* Tuition for all cast roles is $45 for members and $50 for nonmembers. FREE to audition.

Golden Dragon AcrobatsThe ancient art of Chinese acrobatics began more than 2,000 years ago. Over its long and rich history, it has developed as one of the most popular art forms among the Chinese people. The Golden Dragon Acrobats combine award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music, and theatrical techniques to present a show of breathtaking skill and spellbinding beauty. The Children’s Playhouse Series performance is a one-hour, condensed version of the 7:30 pm full-length show, as part of the Center Stage series ($25/ticket).

SYLVESTER & THE MAGIC PEBBLE | Sat., Feb. 4, 2012 at 11 am & 2 pmSylvester and the Magic Pebble

When Sylvester, a winsome donkey, picks up a shiny red pebble, its magic spins a heartwarming story that reveals to him the true importance of family and friends. In Enchantment Theatre Company’s production of the William Steig children’s book, Sylvester learns that magic works very well sometimes — he can turn the rain on and off! — but it can also work against him — when he transforms himself into a rock to escape a hungry lion. How will he transform back into a donkey? How will his loving family ever find him? Will he ever get home?

PAJAMA STORYTIME: Feb. 1 at 7 pm

Enjoy the tale of Sylvester and the Magic Pebble before the live performance on Saturday! Join us for Pajama Storytime at Barnes & Noble Booksellers: 4300 N Freeway. Featuring special guest appearance by Sparky the Art Dog.
